Kanto Auto Works, Ltd. One of the leading manufacturers of Auto-Bodies in Japan, made its debut in the former Naval Base of Yokosuka in 1946, entrusted with mission of reconstructing it into a peace industry city and rehabilitating its transportation under the name of Kanto Electric Motor Works, Ltd.
In the initial stage, the company devoted itself mostly to the production of electric- powered automobiles and bodies for buses as well as the repairing and assembling various type of motor cars at a plant built on the former site of the defunct Naval Torpedo School at Taura in the city of Yokosuka.
In 1948, the company concluded a contract with Toyota Motor Corporation the largest Auto-manufacturer in Japan, for assembling bodies for the chassis of the "Toyopet" passenger cars, which enabled the company to make a fresh start as a partnership with Toyota Motor Industry.
The company changed its name to the present Kanto Auto Works, Ltd., in May 1950. Since then, the company has continued to expand as a powerful cooperator plant for Toyota Motor Corporation, and is ready to serve for auto-bodies throughout the world.
